Providing Possibilities at Pass It On

It was a big night on April 23 as NLCP’s annual fundraiser, Pass It On!, took over the Motorola Mobility headquarters in downtown Chicago The Associate Board organized the third annual gala to raise money in support of NLCP's mission of getting students to and through college.  More than 300 people from all walks of life came dressed in college gear to celebrate another graduating senior class.

Students felt the love in the room, and were still high in the sky at school the next day. These students, most of whom will be first in their family to go to college, are heading off to universities across the country this fall, including Michigan State, University of Illinois, Colby-Sawyer College, Valparaiso University and Trinity College to name just a few. To see what they had to say for themselves, check out this video they put together!

Sophia Kang, Jessica Brandis, Monica Hauser and other Associate Board members transformed Motorola Mobility’s cafeteria into a virtual college student union replete with pinball machines, college banners and, of course, beer and pizza!  Attendees took “Yearbook pictures” at the photo booth, snapped up over 50 silent auction items, and enjoyed libations, cotton candy, pizza, and pasta!

Thanks to our generous sponsors and guests, and a spirited Fund the Need led by Matt Hargarten and Kasey Bates, we raised a total of $150,000 that will support vital programs like NLCP’s Alumni Services which provides scholarships for college and emergency assistance for students who encounter unexpected fees, housing deposits and other expenses.

“There appears to be no limit to the Associate Board’s, commitment, energy, creativity, hipness and daring sense of group-efficacy,” says John Horan. “If we keep up this momentum, next year we’ll have to rent out Soldier Field.” But don’t give this group of dedicated, passionate, and creative individuals any seemingly impossible ideas because they will certainly be able to make them happen.
