Harvard Hosts NLCP Student

Ever since NLCP junior Jela Walton was a small child, she dreamed of studying at Harvard University.  This summer she got her chance, thanks to her incredible determination - and a little help from NLCP’s Phoenix Rising program which sends students to summer enrichment programs that will prepare them for college life.

What do matches, scissors, string and a balloon have in common? Each was part of an elaborate obstacle course navigated by robots that NLCP students built.

 
Peace is Possible

This year, the NLCP community enjoyed more than 150 days of peace – days during which no one resorted to the “language of the inarticulate” with each other. In celebration of this, the school community chose to carry the message of peace to the broader community, marching from NLCP’s Christiana campus through the streets of North Lawndale to NLCP’s Collins campus in Douglas Park. They made banners. They sang songs. They chanted: “Peace is possible.” Neighbors crowded to their windows to watch.

 
NLCP’s Track Team rocks the City Track Championships!

Here are a few of their notable accomplishments this past week:

  • Junior Nadia Miller wins the City high jump title.
  • Senior Bryanna Desrosiers wins the 200 meter and 400 meter competitions.
  • Senior Edquinette West finishes her CPS track career with the fifth most medals of any female track athlete.
